Garage Door Repair

When your garage door stops working safely, daily life gets harder. Our technicians diagnose the real cause, explain your options in plain language, and complete most residential repairs in a single visit.

IronLift technician performing garage door repair on a residential garage door

A residential garage door is the largest moving part of most homes, it can weigh 150 to 400 pounds and cycles thousands of times a year. When something goes wrong, the door either refuses to move, moves the wrong way, or becomes genuinely unsafe. IronLift technicians specialise in residential garage door repair across Langley, Maple Ridge and the wider Fraser Valley, and we diagnose the true cause before recommending any work.

Most repair calls come down to a small number of failure points: broken torsion springs, frayed lift cables, worn rollers, misaligned safety sensors, stripped opener gears, or bent tracks after a bumper tap. We carry the parts to fix the majority of common failures in one visit, and we walk you through the diagnosis in plain language, no upsells, no jargon.

We also see plenty of doors that don't need a full repair at all. A ten-minute adjustment to spring tension, a track realignment, or a sensor cleaning can bring a door back to smooth operation. When that's the case, we say so.

Why this matters

A door that reverses unexpectedly, refuses to close, or drops when released is not just inconvenient, it's a safety risk for children, pets and vehicles, and it leaves your home exposed. Repairing the underlying cause (not just the symptom) protects your family and prevents cascading damage to the opener, cables and panels.

  • Door falls or drops on release

Our garage door repair process

  1. 1

    Same-day diagnosis

We inspect springs, cables, rollers, tracks, sensors and the opener, and identify the real cause, not just the loudest symptom.

  2. 2

    Transparent quote

You get an itemised, written quote before any work begins. If we recommend replacing rather than repairing, we explain why.

  3. 3

    Repair with quality parts

We fit correctly-rated torsion springs, matched cables and OEM-spec opener parts, so the repair lasts.

  4. 4

    Balance and tune

Every repair ends with a full balance test, spring tension check, and safety-reversal test to manufacturer spec.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough and warranty

We show you what was done, how to operate the door safely, and back the workmanship in writing.

Maintenance tips

  • Lubricate the springs, hinges and rollers with a light garage-door lubricant every 6 months, never WD-40, which strips existing lubricant.
  • Wipe the safety-sensor eyes with a soft cloth every few months; Fraser Valley humidity leaves dust that misaligns the beam.
  • Once a year, disconnect the opener and lift the door by hand: it should stay put at knee height. If it drops or springs up, the springs are out of balance.
  • Tighten all visible bolts and lag screws annually, daily vibration loosens hardware over time.
  • Test the auto-reverse by placing a rolled towel on the floor under the door; it should reverse the moment it touches.
  • Book a professional tune-up every 12–18 months. Fraser Valley rain and coastal salt air corrode cables and rollers faster than in drier climates.
