Garage Door Opener Repair
Modern openers are reliable, but motors, gears, logic boards and safety sensors all wear or fail eventually. We repair the major residential opener brands and only recommend replacement when it's the better long-term choice.

A garage door opener is a small motor doing a large job, hoisting a 200-pound door up to a dozen times a day, year after year. When an opener starts acting up, the fix ranges from a five-minute sensor realignment to a full logic-board replacement. IronLift technicians repair every major residential opener brand: LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, Marantec, Sommer and older Stanley and Sears units.
The most common opener problems we see in Langley, Maple Ridge and the Fraser Valley are misaligned safety sensors (often knocked by a bike or lawnmower), stripped drive gears in belt- and chain-drive units, dead capacitors on older motors, and remote and keypad programming issues. We carry the common wear parts on the truck and can complete most opener repairs in a single visit.
Where a repair is not the right economic choice, for openers older than 15 years, without modern safety features, or with a failed circuit board, we say so and quote a modern replacement instead of quietly stacking repair after repair.
Why this matters
A faulty opener that closes on an obstruction, or refuses to reverse, is a genuine safety hazard. Federal safety standards require photo-eye reversal for a reason. Repairing openers correctly (or replacing when they can't be repaired safely) keeps your family, pets and vehicles protected.

Maintenance tips
- Clean the safety-sensor lenses every 3–6 months with a soft dry cloth.
- Check the sensor alignment monthly, the LEDs on both sides should glow steady, not blink.
- Replace remote batteries once a year, even if they seem fine, weak batteries cause intermittent failures.
- Never spray lubricant into the opener motor housing; only lubricate the drive chain or screw drive per the manual.
- If your opener is 10+ years old, ask about MyQ / WiFi upgrade kits during your next service.
